The Trasandinos love committed folk and contemporary songs from rock bands on both sides of the Andes. They pay tribute to this culture by reworking the songs into their own Latino sound.

The Andes Mountains are the second highest mountain range in the world after the Himalayas. It is a 7,000 km long natural border, with still growing mountain peaks and inhospitable plateaus, along the west coast of South America. The highest peak of this mountain range, the Aconcagua, is located at the border of Argentina with Chile reaching 6,959 meters.

Those who live in Chile refer to the Argentinians as 'Trasandinos'. The people who live on the other side, 'tras' of the Andes, 'Andinos'. Conversely, the Argentinians also say 'Trasandinos' when they mean the Chileans. We are all Trasandinos!

Band leader Boriss grew up in a musical home in Chile. Studies brought him to Belgium and love kept him there. Matias is from Argentina and love also brought him to Belgium. In Gingelom the two Latinos found each other and founded the band 'Trasandinos'. At first only with vocals, guitar and charango (a kind of small five-string ukulele, typical of the Andes region).

For a first occasional performance in Gingelom in 2019, they inspired Thomas to join on percussion and Boriss' friend and compatriot Cheo, has also been part of the core of the group ever since. In 2023, Sonia and Bernard also joined, deepening the warm sound of the group with flute, bass guitar and baritone sax.
